What is Cupping Therapy?
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of medical treatment originated from China. The therapy is considered as a type of deep tissue massage. The treatment is performed by placing special cups on the skin to create negative pressure through suction. There are two types of cupping therapy, dry and wet.
Dry cupping - suction only method.
Wet cupping - a combination of suction and controlled medicinal bleeding.
*Note - I only offer dry cupping treatments.
How does it work?
Dry cupping therapy uses a suction pump as a tool to pull air out of the cups and create a negative pressure. The suction draws the skin and muscle up into the cup and gives it a good stretch - lengthening and releases tight muscles. Treatment can promote:
Healing soft tissue injuries
Relieve pain, inflammation or discomfort
Relieve muscular tension
Blood circulation and cell repair
Increase oxygen and nutritional content within the tissue
Lymphatic drainage and flushing toxins
Stimulation of healing process to micro-trauma (small tears in muscle, tendons and ligaments)
Dry cupping is a multipurpose therapy which can also be beneficial for:
Headaches and migraines
Asthma and congestion in the lungs
Indigestion
Female infertility
Nerve pain
Diabetes and many more!
