Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between sports massage and cupping?

The difference between sports massage and cupping is that massage techniques are applied with direct pressure to the targeted area to release tension and knots. Cupping, however, works the opposite. Cupping therapy uses negative pressure to stretch and lengthen the skin, muscle and even blood vessels before giving you the sense of relaxation.

What are the sessions like?

Prior your first session, we undergo a free consultation to get a gist of your problem(s). The beginning of your session consists of a postural exam, some palpation and passive/active movements to investigate your issues before undergoing your specific treatment. You will also be given supportive advice and homework as this will benefit the duration of your recovery.

Does it hurt?

The relationship between sports massage and yourself may not always be so merry. Even as we work with your pain threshold, in order for treatments to be effective and beneficial, it may involve some deep tissue techniques which can cause discomfort, never pain.

What do I need to do before my treatment?

Ask questions! Drop me a message on my socials or email. This way I can get more of an idea what you are looking for. Sometimes I may not be the most suitable therapist for you and have to refer you to a doctor. Prior to your appointment, make sure you have a clear and open area, enough for the massage table and space for myself to manoeuvre. Wear appropriate clothing for the appointment - shorts, t-shirt, sports top/bra - depending on the areas you wish to be treated and have 2 towels ready (1 large, 1 medium).

How long do the cupping marks last?

Cupping marks vary and can last between a few days up to two weeks. Cupping marks also depends on the level of stagnation (non-circulating blood and toxins). Therefore, the greater level of stagnation, the darker discolouration cupping marks will leave, as well as the duration. After your first session, cupping marks may last a little longer. However, the more sessions you have, discolouration will decrease as the stagnation resolves which indicates a successful result of a cupping treatment protocol.

I don’t play any sports, can I have a sport massage treatment?

Sport massage is not sport specific! For example, if you suffer from chronic back pain due to your office job or even long distance driving, pain can radiate from your lower back up to your shoulders, neck, elbows and wrists. Sports massage is one of the most natural and effective treatment to relieve pain and tension. This also applies for dry cupping therapy and kinesiology taping.
